South Metro Accessibility Study - Phase I

This project will implement the Phase I improvements recommended by the South Metro Accessibility Study. The total cost for Phase I is estimated at $67,200,000 in 2006 dollars.

  • The County portion of Phase I widens Academy Blvd. (SH 83) from SH 115 to I-25, and is anticipated to be one-third of the cost, or $22,400,000.

The City portion will design and construct a new expressway between Academy Blvd. and Powers Blvd. This new expressway will be located just south of Drennan Rd. between Academy Blvd. and Hancock Expwy., and then will combine with existing Drennan Rd. as it approaches Powers Blvd.
  • The City portion of Phase I accounts for the other two-thirds of the total Phase I cost, or $44,800,000.

The project scope includes preliminary design, permitting, public information and outreach, final design, right-of-way (ROW) acquisition, and construction management. The City’s estimated program cost is: $34,296,140 (2005 = $4,261,960; 2006 = $2,387,100; 2007 = $0; 2008 = $18,417,000; 2009 = $3,556,080; 2010 = $5,674,000). The remaining funds to complete this project are currently anticipated to be programmed in the 2011-2014 timeframe. Estimated project schedule (City portion):

Ground was broken for this project in May 2010.
