City of Colorado Springs Capital Projects

Austin Bluffs/Union Boulevard

The Austin Bluffs Parkway overpass opened to traffic on September 11, 2008. The improvements to this intersection included construction of a grade-separated single-point diamond interchange. Austin Bluffs Parkway now passes over Union Boulevard on a bridge. Entrance and exit ramps from Austin Bluffs Parkway intersect with Union Boulevard at a single-signalized intersection. Union Boulevard has been widened at the intersection to allow double left-turn lanes and right-turn lanes for traffic operations. Three through lanes in each direction continue on Union Boulevard.

This project received two engineering awards in 2009. The American Public Works Association-Colorado Chapter presented the project with a public works project award for Street and Traffic Engineering/ Operation/Maintenance for a large community. The American Council of Engineering Companies of Colorado presented the project with an Engineering Award of Excellence.
