Woodmen Road

Project Description: The Woodmen Road Corridor Improvement Project extends along Woodmen Road from I-25 to US 24, a distance of approximately 11 miles. The purpose of this project is to develop a roadway improvement concept that meets the safety and capacity needs of the corridor.

The City of Colorado Springs and El Paso County worked together to develop a National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) Environmental Assessment (EA) for the project, which was a necessary first step to make use of the federal funds available to both the City and County for Woodmen Road.

The City portion of the project is from I-25 to Powers Blvd., approximately five miles. There is approximately $104 million currently programmed for the City portion of the project, of which approximately 30% is federal, 34% is federal stimulus, 6% is the City's match, and 30% is PPRTA funding (2007-2010).

Construction began in September 2009.
